Missing Hazel Green teen rescued from cave

GRANT (AP) — A Hazel Green teen who got lost in a cave when his flashlight quit working was found about 4,000 feet into the dark cavern and was back home Friday.

Rescue workers found Justin Lovett, 16, of Hazel Green unharmed Thursday night, several hours after he was reported missing in the cave, The Huntsville Times reported on its Web site.

"When the boy's flashlight quit, he just sat down, which was a smart thing for him to do," Paul Evans of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department said. "It took about 45 minutes to walk him out, but he was okay."

Authorities said the teen was visiting his grandmother in Grant when he decided to explore the cave around noon Thursday. His mother called authorities about 2 p.m. when he didn't return.
