ARDMORE — A spree of vehicle break-ins brought bad luck to a man who allegedly had been sneaking into his girlfriend's bedroom.

Limestone County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said Ardmore police have been patrolling an area where several vehicle break-ins occurred earlier this month. He said officer David Posey saw a suspicious vehicle Thursday night on Cedar Hill Road.

"While he was checking out the vehicle, he spotted a man outside near one of the homes," McNatt said.

Turns out that man allegedly has been sneaking into his girlfriend's bedroom through a window, McNatt said. The girl is 15, so although the sex was consensual, by law she is underage.

Authorities charged the man, Michael A. Stone, 19, of 25695 Fairmont, Athens, with second-degree rape. His bond had not yet been set.

In the meantime, vehicle break-ins continued, this time in the Toney area. McNatt said a thief or thieves took $2,059 in items from unlocked cars on Michael Lane, Peety Lane and J.B. Magnusson Drive.

The break-ins occurred between Wednesday and Thursday. Items taken included a portable DVD player, the move "Garfield", tools, car stereo, sunglasses and coveralls.
