Decatur’s new police chief plans to attend 5 community meetings

Decatur’s new police chief plans to attend community meetings in the city’s five districts, saying he wants to know how his department can best serve residents.

“Not only me, but the entire command staff will be at the meetings,” Chief Ken Collier said. “I think it’s good to do this periodically. We have a pretty good idea what we’re doing right, but as public servants we want to know if you think we’re doing a good job.”

Collier said he wants to address residents’ concerns.

“We trying to get as many people to attend, and we’re not asking them to come pat us on the back,” Collier said. “We’re looking specifically for concerns.”
