Victim finds his stolen trailer; man charged

A Decatur man spotted his missing utility trailer and got it back Saturday, while Decatur police added a theft charge on a suspect already in jail.

The victim reported the trailer missing Jan. 12, police said. He saw someone towing the trailer Saturday, northbound on Danville Road Southwest. He followed the vehicle to a residence on 10th Avenue Northwest and called police.

Sgt. Tony Morgan, officer Michael Burleson and Detective Jeremy Hayes then spoke with the resident and the victim, positively identifying the missing trailer and focusing on a Decatur man as the suspect.

Hayes charged Carlton Lewis Stevens, 49, of 204 Memorial Drive S.W. with second-degree theft of property. He was already in Decatur City Jail awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections on another theft case involving a utility trailer. Stevensí bond is $750. Investigators said they expect other arrests.
