Woman indicted in death of girl in 2006 collision

ATHENS — A Limestone County grand jury has indicted a woman on vehicular homicide in a multi-car collision that left a 5-year-old girl dead.

According to court and trooper arrest reports, Ruth Ann Kyle, 28, of 1206 Pryor St., allegedly was speeding and passed another vehicle on Brownsferry Road in the Reid community in March 2006. Kyle allegedly hit two vehicles, lost control and hit a stand of trees.

The impact ejected Haley Stewart, 5, of Athens, killing her. A 4-year-old boy also was ejected but lived.

Kyle underwent surgery at Huntsville Hospital for her injuries.

She turned herself into authorities Wednesday. She is out of jail on $50,000 bond.
