Readers say God created humans, not evolution

God created humans without any help from evolution, in the opinion of three-fourths of the respondents to an online poll.

“What do you think is the most likely origin of human life?” asked the poll, conducted Thursday and Friday at www
.decaturdaily.com.

Of 394 respondents, 296 (75.1 percent) chose the option “God created humans.” Fifty-eight (14.7 percent) chose “Humans evolved from other life forms”; 40 (10.2 percent) chose “Both.”

Nobody picked the fourth option, “Neither.”

“Of course we were created by God and in his own image,” Matilda Eguia of Decatur wrote in an e-mail. “Evolution is just something for those who are afraid of conviction and the truth to believe. Only God could create something so amazing.”

Aaron Potts of Decatur said, “If man evolved from apes and monkeys, why do we still have monkeys and apes?”

The unscientific poll coincided with news reports about a new scientific study that said humans’ evolutionary ancestors predated the dinosaurs’ die-off, contrary to earlier thinking.
