Tips from people who recognized a Decatur bank robber in surveillance images revealed the at-large suspect's identity, police said Monday.
Sgt. Rick Archer said the robber has been positively identified as 41-year-old Mark Anthony Pride, also known as Marcus Anthony Pride and Mark Brunner.
Pride allegedly held up the First American Bank branch at 2004 Sixth Ave. S.E. on Friday afternoon, police said.
He went into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money, said Lt. Chris Mathews, a police spokesman.
The teller told police she reacted by looking at Pride, who glared at her, prompting her to hand over the cash.
Archer said police had found the gold-colored car Pride used to flee the bank. They had not yet found Pride but had obtained an arrest warrant charging him with third-degree robbery.
Pride's last known address was 327 Larkwood Drive S.W. He has family in Madison and frequents the Belle Mina area, Archer said. Pride, a black male, is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. He had facial hair at the time of the robbery.
Police are also trying to determine whether Pride was involved in the March 15 robbery of Regions Bank in Madison.
Archer thanked the many members of the public who recognized Pride in photographs and called police with information.
He asked that anyone who has had contact with Pride or has information about his whereabouts call him at 341-4647, the FBI at (205) 326-6166 or the confidential police tip line at 341-4636.
