Carload of men linked to robbery

A man reported being mugged by a carload of men as he walked through a Northwest Decatur neighborhood early Wednesday, police said.

Jeff Campbell, 37, told police he was on Alma Street at Geddis Street at about 3:20 a.m. when three men climbed from a silver Chevrolet Impala stopped at the intersection.

A black male with a medium complexion showed Campbell a handgun stuffed in his waistband, and a black male with a light complexion pulled out a knife, said Lt. Chris Mathews, a police spokesman. A white male was also in the group.

The trio knocked Campbell to the ground, took his wallet, and then climbed back into the car and left, Mathews said.

An ambulance took Campbell to Decatur General Hospital for treatment of minor cuts and bruises.
