Governor signs legislation to rebuild Enterprise schools
MONTGOMERY (AP) — Gov. Bob Riley signed into law Thursday a bill that appropriates $32 million to rebuild two Enterprise schools destroyed by tornadoes.
The money will be used to rebuild Hillcrest Elementary School and Enterprise High School.
A March 1 tornado destroyed the two schools and killed eight students who were huddled in a hallway at the high school.
“We will do everything we can to help Enterprise continue on the road to recovery,” Riley said.
The legislation allows Enterprise school officials to also use any insurance money or federal disaster relief it receives for the rebuilding effort. The bill went to the governor for his signature after passing the Senate 34-0 and the House 100-0 last week.
