UNA scholarships

These area students have received scholarships from The University of North Alabama.

Brett Henderson of Moulton, leadership. He is a senior at Lawrence County High School, where he is a member of All-State band and JROTC Cadet First Lieutenant. Henderson is the son of Chris and Diane Henderson.

Micaela Terry, of Moulton, C.N. Martin Endowed Scholarship. She is a senior at Lawrence County High School, where she is president of the LEO Club, a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in the Joe Wheeler Youth Tour and Youth Leadership Lawrence. She is the daughter of Michael and Patti Terry.

Duke program

Sophie Howard of Decatur has been chosen for Grand Recognition by the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s 2007 Seventh Grade Talent Search, based on qualifying scores on the ACT or SAT. Grand recognition honors students who have the highest ACT or SAT scores. These students are recognized at Duke’s Grand Recognition Ceremony and also at the state recognition ceremony.

Sophie is a seventh-grader at Cedar Ridge Middle School and is the daughter of Scott and Harriet Howard.

West Morgan students

West Morgan Elementary School announces its students of the month for March.

Kindergarten: Ryan Carter, Emily Hernandez; first grade: Jeffery Hunter, Stephanie Shockley; second grade: Jorge Ortiz, Hannah Jackson; third grade: Branden Tucker, Patty Cottongim; fourth grade: Preston White, Riley Jones.

Students of the month for the entire school: Branden Tucker, Hannah Jackson.

Millwood on list

Alexis Millwood of Decatur has been named to the president’s list at William Carey College, Hattiesburg, Miss., for the 2007 winter term. To be eligible for the list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average.

Morgan registration

Morgan County Schools will register students for kindergarten and first grade for the 2007-08 school year on April 16-17, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents will register their children at their district schools. Parents will need their child’s Social Security card, certificate of immunization, birth certificate and proof of residence in their Morgan County Schools district, such as a utility bill.

Arc poster contest
winners

These area students were winners in the Arc of Morgan County’s Disability Awareness Contest. The theme was “What’s Love Got to Do With It?”

Grand prize: Parker Gwin, Leon Sheffield Elementary School.

Second place grand prize: Brittnie Letson, homeschooled.

Third place grand prize: Zach Aldridge, Leon Sheffield.

First place: Michael Schramm, Ryan School; Nidia Saavedra, Austinville; Eisabeth Shull, Katrina Ryan, both of Sparkman; Caroline Looney, Priceville.

Second place: Hannah Taylor, Brooke Jones, both of Leon Sheffield; Daniel Yeargin, Austin Bell, both of Sparkman; Jennifer Contreras, Austinville; Jami Letson, homeschooled; Coty Benitez, Anna Wright, both of Ryan School; Brandon Sharp, Priceville.
