Eufaula Guard unit activated for 2nd time
EUFAULA (AP) — A National Guard unit from Eufaula is being activated for the second time to support the war in Iraq.
The Alabama National Guard announced Friday that about 75 members of the 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will go on active duty May 5. They will train at Fort Hood, Texas, and then be deployed overseas at a classified location.
The unit was also deployed for the war on terrorism from October 2002 until late 2003.
Including this activation of the Eufaula unit, more than 12,000 Army and Air National Guard members from Alabama have been called to duty since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, according to a news release from the National Guard.
