Fire put out at Hartselle High

HARTSELLE — Firefighters put out flames in the ticket office area of the Hartselle High School gym about midnight Saturday.

Hartselle Fire Chief Steve Shelton called the fire “suspicious.” He said someone apparently entered the building from the rear door of the gym and pulled down ceiling tiles.

A Comer Street resident heard a loud noise, looked out the window and saw flames, Shelton said. When firefighters arrived, the fire was escalating up the walls.

The ticket office, about 30 by 30 feet, was heavily damaged by fire, water and smoke, and there was smoke damage throughout the gym.

One firefighter was receiving oxygen at the scene, but there were no immediate indications of serious injuries. Hartselle police were investigating. Both Hartselle and Oak Ridge firefighters responded.
