Winners announced in BBQ chicken cooking competition

MOULTON — Buck Padgett of Moulton and his team took first place Saturday in the Barbecue Chicken Cooking Contest held in conjunction with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival.

The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce awarded Padgett and fellow cookers Mike Hancock, Tim Carter and Beth Carter the $400 prize and bragging rights for the year.

Receiving second place and $300 was Joe Key and his team from Gurley.

Third place and $200 went to Vanessa McCluskey and her team from Garden City.

Patrick Galloway and his team from Decatur won $100 for the "Best Decorated Cook Site."

The Lawrence County Extension Service coordinated the contest.

Pilgrim's Pride provided chickens for each team.
