By Holly Hollman 340-2445

ATHENS — A popular monkey and dog are heralding the return of Singing on the Square to the downtown Athens area.

Clifford the red dog and Curious George will be at the Friday event.

Old Man Winter drove the monthly singing indoors, but Tourism Director Jeannette Rich said she expects Friday to be "just about perfect weather" for the event to return outdoors.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville is predicting Friday to be partly cloudy with a high near 71.

The free event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and features the Calhoun Community College Chorale under the direction of Holly Powe, and Lacey Snider at 7:30.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Pablo's on Market, Sassy's Fraz and Tortillas Blanco, all located on Market Street, will remain open.

The restaurants and event workers will collect books as part of the WHNT-TV Schools Book Drive.

Bring a gently used or new book or buy one at Pablo's. Books will go to Athens and Limestone County schools.
