Schools lease more computers

Two years ago, Decatur City Schools was on the bottom of the heap in the technology world.

The school system had a ratio of five computers less than five years old for each student. But two lease agreements have the city's ratio among the best in the state. The city leased 900 computers last year and, on Thursday, the school board approved leasing 250 Dell computers for $219,650.

Assistant Superintendent Ed Nichols said last year's lease dropped that ratio to 3.9 to 1. The recent lease helps the city maintain this ratio. The state average is 4.3 per pupil and the national average is 3.8.
