Three people face armed robbery charges in a plot to rob a Decatur man inside his home, police said Tuesday.
Two women planned the April 17 robbery with their boyfriends, Michael Jerome Allen, 20, and Elbert Anderson, 17, and another man, Tyree Mason, 17, police said.
The women were questioned by police and released but may face charges later, said police Sgt. Rick Archer, who is investigating the case.
The women had recently met the intended victim, Don Cornelius Baldwin, 32, through a mutual friend.
The women took advantage of an invitation to Baldwin's apartment in the 1600 block of Brook-ridge Drive Southwest, according to Archer. Arriving at about 11 p.m., they unlocked Baldwin's front door and lured him upstairs so Allen, Anderson and Mason could enter, Archer said.
Mason and Allen were armed with baseball bats and Anderson armed himself with a piece of reinforcing bar he found in the apartment. When Baldwin went back downstairs, the men attacked and beat him, Archer said.
Baldwin called police and was taken to Decatur General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to his head, face and body. He later realized that two wallets, a cell phone and a small amount of cash had been taken from his residence.
Police arrested Allen of 1806 Martin St. S.E., Mason of an unknown address on Henry Street in Athens and Anderson of 2009 Eighth St. S.E. and booked each into Morgan County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery. Each remained jailed Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 bond.
