Shelby announces grant to aid disabled with employment

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa, said Wednesday that Alabama will receive a $1.2 million federal grant designed to help individuals with disabilities gain information about employment.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration to the Alabama State Department of Economic Affairs to support its Disability Program Navigator initiative. Alabama received these funds through a competitive grant program.

"This program assists disabled individuals in accessing employment opportunities," said Shelby. "The DPN initiative creates conditions where people with disabilities can begin to help themselves and earn a good living. This initiative increases employment opportunities and self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities."
