State school board in town

Renee Culverhouse, left, interim chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system, is here for a meeting of the State Board of Education on Thursday at Calhoun Community College.

College president Marilyn Beck, right, talked with her Wednesday night at a reception at the Sexton Building. Agenda items include Culverhouse's contract as interim chancellor and Gov.

Bob Riley's proposal to prohibit elected officials from holding jobs in public schools and the postsecondary college system.

The board's postsecondary meeting and monthly K-12 work session - open to the public - will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium of Calhoun's Health Sciences Center.
