Man stabbed in hip after argument about money

ELKMONT — An argument about money led to a stabbing at an Elkmont salvage yard Wednesday, Sheriff Mike Blakely said.

Waylon Jarrett, 53, of 18869 Cross Key Road, Athens, allegedly stabbed an acquaintance in the hip area
with a pocketknife, Blakely said.

“They ran into each other at the salvage yard, and the victim supposedly owed Mr. Jarrett some money and couldn’t or wouldn’t pay up,” Blakely said. The men are not saying what the money was for but that is under investigation, the sheriff said.

The stabbing occurred around 2 p.m. The salvage yard is on Bethel Road.

Athens-Limestone Hospital treated and released the victim, Blakely said.

Jarrett was in jail on $5,000 bond, charged with second-degree assault.
