Visitors bureau releases first dining guide

Overnight guests staying in Morgan County now have a dining guide listing 159 eateries in the county.

The Decatur-Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau began distributing the first-time brochures two weeks ago.

The brochure lists restaurants in the Danville/Falkville area, Decatur in general, Sixth Avenue Southeast, Beltline Road Southwest, the Old Decatur/Albany historic districts, Hartselle, Lacey’s Spring, Priceville, Somerville and Trinity.

It identifies 12 restaurants as “must try dining,” such as OH! Bryan’s Family Steakhouse and Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q.

Bureau President Tami Reist said the initial response from hotels was favorable, and she thinks the bureau can improve it over time.

She said she could update it quarterly because restaurants come and go frequently.

The bureau paid $2,000 for the 10,000 brochures. Reist said the cost of future dining guides could be offset by getting a local restaurant to sponsor it in exchange for the eatery’s name and photo on the cover.
