HARTSELLE — A collision with a tractor-trailer killed a driver and injured her passenger Friday night.
Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard pronounced Jessica Brown, 24, of Somerville dead at the scene of the 6:30 p.m. wreck.
Brown was heading north on Mt. Tabor Road, apparently crossing Alabama 36 onto New Center Road when she collided with the eastbound rig, Beard said.
A passenger believed to be her husband, Marcus Brown, was injured, Beard said.
MedFlight took him to Huntsville Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
The driver of the tractor-trailer apparently was uninjured.
The wreck remained under investigation. At press time, state troopers had released no information about it.
Beard said the driver side of the vehicle took most of the impact and Jessica Brown died from blunt force trauma.
The impact threw Brown's car into a field east of the intersection. The tractor-trailer ran off the road.
The wreck resulted in a fuel spill and closed down one lane of the highway, state troopers said.
Department of Transportation workers put sand on road to soak up the fuel.
The road was expected to reopen shortly after 10 p.m.
