Browns Ferry unit hearing Wednesday

If you have concerns or questions about the Tennessee Valley Authority’s request to restart the refurbished Unit 1 reactor at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, you may want to attend a Wednesday meeting.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with TVA officials at the nuclear plant on Shaw Road at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The meetings are open to the public, and NRC officials will answer questions from the public at the conclusion of each meeting.

Before deciding on TVA’s request to restart Unit 1, the NRC will discuss regulatory findings with the power provider. NRC officials said they will make a decision about TVA’s request to restart the unit soon.

TVA owns the operating license for Unit 1, which has been shut down since 1985.
