AU athletes help clean up Enterprise
ENTERPRISE (AP) — Fifty-two Auburn University student-athletes demolished two tornado-wrecked houses in Enterprise on Saturday.
The homes were destroyed by the March 1 twister that struck Enterprise High School, killing eight students.
AU’s director of community relations and spirit Latisha Durroh organized the trip with Sydney Hoffman, a community relations representative from the governor’s office.
The volunteers swinging sledgehammers Saturday included the entire AU women’s basketball coaching staff and representatives from the athletic department.
“We were at the SEC Tournament when the tornado hit and were very aware of what was going on,” Auburn head coach Nell Fortner said. “We knew right away that we wanted to do something to help this community.”
