AU president to get $450,000 base salary
AUBURN (AP) — Trustees have approved a base salary of $450,000 a year for new Auburn University President Jay Gogue — $17,000 more a year than his base pay as president of the University of Houston.
Gogue, 59, who was hired last month by his alma mater, becomes Auburn’s 18th president when he begins work in mid-July.
Gogue did not attend Friday’s board of trustees meeting where the salary was approved.
Gogue could be the highest-paid president in AU history if stays on the job at his alma mater for at least five years.
Gogue’s proposed 5-year contract, which he and the AU board are expected to complete by the end of June, will pay Gogue $250,000 more a year in deferred salary, a total of $1.25 million, if he works until at least mid-2012.
He would draw another $400,000 at the end of the contract in deferred salary that he has earned to date in his Houston job.
