Service Tuesday for Marshall County chair

GUNTERSVILLE (AP) — A memorial service will be held Tuesday in Guntersville for Marshall County Commission Chairman Billy Cannon, who died Saturday from an apparent heart attack. He was 60.

Coroner Marlon Killion said Cannon, who had a history of heart problems, died at 1:29 p.m. Saturday at Marshall Medical Center North in Guntersville after he collapsed at his Guntersville home.

Commissioner C. W. "Buddy" Allen said he first met Cannon after Cannon opened a car dealership in Guntersville more than 20 years ago.

"Whatever the problem, he could always get an agreement," Allen said.

The 2 p.m. memorial will be held at First United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.

Survivors include his mother, two brothers, one son, one daughter and three grandchildren. His wife, Jill, died about two years ago.
