Limited access to highway sought

The Decatur City Council could partner with the Limestone County Commission in asking state highway officials to curb access to development on Alabama 20.

On Monday, Decatur Mayor Don Kyle told the council that the resolution would ask the state Department of Transportation to permit only two highway access points: at a church development and at Bibb-Garrett Road.

The 21/2-mile stretch of highway between U.S. 31 and Interstate 65 is known for its interstate-speed collisions, however lower speed limits and enforcement have reduced fatalities and wrecks with injuries.

The council could forward its recommendation of preventing future curb cuts with one soon to be considered by Limestone County.
