Randy and Barbara Ash were named Morgan County Foster Parents of the Year by the Morgan County Department of Human Resources.

The Lacey’s Spring couple foster four children ages, 11/2, 4, 13 and 14, and have cared for others since entering the program in 2002.

Cathy Bodley, DHR resource development coordinator, described the Ashes as a perfect team, and noted they intended to keep only one child five years ago, but their sincere devotion to children prompted them to add more.

“It really is a calling for them,” she said. “You can tell they love each other and they love the kids, too.”

All 42 foster parent families in Morgan County were eligible for the annual award. Each family and the DHR staff vote to determine the honoree.

The award was given Friday night at a Burningtree Country Club dinner sponsored by DHR and Families and Children Experiencing Separation.

In addition to honoring the Ashes, DHR recognized Leslie Terry as the Social Worker of the Year, an award determined by DHR staff. Terry joined the Morgan County staff three years ago as a foster care worker.

Bodley said Terry distinguished herself by regularly going beyond the call of duty and noted she even volunteered to work on Christmas Day so a set of parents could spend time with their children.
