SOMERVILLE — The family of a woman killed in a wreck is praying for help with funeral expenses.

Jessica Brown, 24, died when the vehicle she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on Alabama 36 at Mount Tabor Road on April 27.

The crash left her husband, Mark Brown, 29, in critical condition in Huntsville Hospital’s surgical intensive care unit.

Brown’s aunt, Linda Lawson, said a family already struggling with health problems and a fixed income now faces about $8,000 in funeral expenses in addition to the pain of burying a daughter.

Lawson said the Browns, who had just moved to Somerville, had no money and no insurance.

She said Brown’s father, Barry Collier, is disabled.

“It’s a terrible time to lose a child, and he has a debt to pay off,” Lawson said. “Surely there’s enough people that can give just a little bit to take this burden off of him.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the Jessica Collier Brown special fund account may do so at any Regions Bank branch.

Lawson said any additional funds will benefit the couple’s daughter, Brooklyn Brown, who turns 3 this week.
