6 injured in Cullman County school bus wreck

CULLMAN (AP) — Six people were injured Wednesday when a Cullman County school bus ran off a state highway and flipped on its side in the Center Hill Community near Hanceville.

A student and a teacher were airlifted from the scene to hospitals in Huntsville and Birmingham, state trooper Curtis Summerville said.

The accident occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on Alabama 91. The bus carrying 30 to 35 students from Fairview Middle School in North Cullman County was returning from a field trip to Birmingham, The Birmingham News reported on its Web site.

Mike Floyd, transportation director for Cullman County schools, said the six injured included four students, a teacher and the bus driver. The teacher was airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital and one student was taken to a Huntsville hospital.
