Sears and Kmart, in conjunction with the Morgan County Humane Society, will sponsor an adopt-a-thon Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Kmart on Beltline Road.

Robyn Purdy of Somerville, the society's chief executive officer, said the group will display photos of animals available at the Morgan County Animal Shelter in Hartselle and at the society's foster homes.

"People who would like to adopt an animal may make selections from photos and then go through the initial adoption process," Purdy said.

She said the agency will have dog treats and homemade candles for sale to raise money toward the shelter it plans to build on donated land on Gum Springs Cut Off Road near Hartselle.

"We'll also have a sketch to show of what our facility will look like," she said.

"And next year, I hope that we'll have a mobile adoption unit so people can view the animals on site."
