ELKMONT — Neighbors at a Piney Chapel Road apartment found a resident unconscious Saturday morning, apparently the victim of an assault two or three days earlier.
Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt of the Limestone County Sheriff's Department said an ambulance took James Benjamin Tinnon, 33, to Athens-Limestone Hospital. MedFlight then flew Tinnon to Huntsville Hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman said Tinnon was in critical condition Monday afternoon in the neuro-intensive care unit.
McNatt said Tinnon apparently visited his neighbor, Casey Wayne Anderson, 28, of 22651 Piney Chapel Road, Apartment 1. He said both were drinking alcohol and Anderson allegedly attacked Tinnon "for no reason."
McNatt said a witness saw the alleged attack, but Tinnon did not call authorities and went back to his apartment.
The department arrested Anderson and charged him with second-degree assault. His bond is set at $5,000.
