Fish fry fundraiser June 4 in Athens

ATHENS — Fight litter by pleasing your palate.

A local group will dish out catfish, shrimp and chicken strips to raise money for beautification projects and anti-litter campaigns.

Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful will host the Swamp Johnís Fish Fry on June 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at First United Meth-odist Churchís Beasley Center at Marion and Bryan streets. Cost is $8 and includes tea and dessert while it lasts.

Fish fry tickets are available at First American Bank and Compass Bank branches in Athens as well as the RSVP office on Washington Street.

Mud volleyball June 15 for CASA

ATHENS — This is an announcement for those who like playing in the mud.

Registration is under way for the 19th annual CASA Mud Volleyball tournament. Entry deadline is June 15 by 3 p.m. Cost is $15 per player, with a minimum of eight players per team.

The tournament is the largest fundraiser for CASA of Limestone County. CASA stands for Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound. The agency helps ensure those in need get transportation to appointments, wheelchair ramps, grab bars and minor repairs.

The tournament will start at 9 a.m. July 21 at Swan Creek Park behind Athens High School.
