Theft suspect found by chance in store
A little luck helped Morgan County deputies capture a theft suspect after search dogs failed.
The search started when two deputies received information that a theft suspect was going to be in the Mud Tavern Road area early Thursday morning, Chief Deputy Mike Corley said.
They set up lookouts on both ends of the roadway. When they spotted the suspect, Jason Dale Tice, he evaded them in his vehicle and then on foot, he said.
More deputies and investigators joined the hunt, aided by search dogs from Limestone Correction Facility.
The hunt occurred at about
3 a.m., and deputies called it
off when they couldn't locate Tice.
Two of the deputies, however, happened to enter a convenience store at Danville and Bird Springs roads at 2:30 p.m. and found Tice inside the store, Corley said.
Tice, 27, of 26 Tall Pine Road in Morgan County, was out on bond for manufacturing methamphetamine. He remained in Morgan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond for the theft charge.
