Man charged with sodomizing girl, 8

MOULTON — A Moulton man is facing charges that he sodomized an 8-year-old girl.

A press release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department said investigators charged Larry Gene Fretwell Jr., 19, of 97 Lawrence County 466 with first-degree sodomy. The jail released him on $5,000 bond.

According to the release, the sheriff’s office and the Lawrence County Department of Human Resources investigated the incident, which allegedly occurred around May 19 at his home.

Investigators interviewed Fretwell on Friday and, as a result of the interview and evidence, placed him under arrest.

Morgan County firefighters awards

The Morgan County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments at a recent banquet in Hartselle gave awards for 2006, said the group’s president, Van Geist of Cotaco.

Geist said one of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the John Miller Youth Leadership Award to Eli Haley of Trinity.

The 7-year-old alerted family members to a fire Dec. 22, then helped get them out of the house.

Geist said there were no nominations for Male Emergency Technician of the Year. The other award winners:

Rookie of the Year: Heath Diveleyof Ebenezer.

Male Firefighter: Jason Holmes of Eva.

Female Firefighter: Lori Avery of Ebenezer.

Female Emergency Medical Technician: Marion Studer of Lacey’s Spring.

Chief of the Year: Charles Black of Priceville.

Boyce Walker Community Service Award: J.D. Sparks of Talucah.

Valor Award: Jeff Young of Ebenezer.

Department of the Year, Ebenezer.

Most Improved Department: Priceville.
