Sandifer honored

Bianca Danielle Sandifer of Athens has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. She is a student at Athens High School and is the daughter of Sundra Sandifer and the late Donald Sandifer. Her grandparents are Mary Wilson of Huntsville, Eula Long of Tanner, the late Peter Wilson and the late Edward Long.

Hames receives
law degree

Carolyn J. Hames of Hartselle has received her Juris Doctor degree from the Birmingham School of Law. She is a graduate of Decatur High School and The University of Alabama. Her husband is Randy A. Hames.

Howard honored
by the USAA

Sophie Grace Howard of Decatur has been named an All-American Scholar At-Large and a National Award Winner in history and government by the United States Achievement Academy. She is a student at Cedar Ridge Middle School and is the daughter of Scott and Harriett Howard. Her grandparents are Harold Howard of Kentucky and Harold and Gloria Henneman of Arab.

NSCC scholarships

These area students have received scholarships to Northwest-Shoals Community College. Christopher Moore of Athens, foundation scholarship. He is a senior at Clements High School, where he is a member of the Beta Club, Spanish Club and Whos Who Among American High School Students. He is the son of Randy and Lisa Moore.

Sequoyah Birdsong of Moulton, foundation scholarship. She is a graduate of Lawrence County High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Whos Who Among American High School Students, on the A honor roll and Leo Club. She is the daughter of Janice and Demetries Echols.

Lee named to Girls State

Laurin Lee of Decatur has been named to be a delegate at the 2007 Alabama Girls State, to be held Sunday through Friday at Troy State University. She is a student at Athens Bible School, where she is a member of the Beta Club and A-B honor roll. She is the daughter of Alan and Sonia Lee. Her grandparents are Robbie and Aloma Clark and Paul Lee.

Keeton named
to deans list

Jamie Keeton of Decatur has been named to the deans list at The University of Alabama at Birmingham for the 2007 spring semester. She is the granddaughter of Diane Herchenhahn of Decatur.

Ament receives degree

Rebecca Ament of Danville has received her bachelors degree from Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga. Her degree was conferred at the May 5 commencement exercises. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Deborah Ament.

Korpi named
to deans list

Stephen Korpi of Trinity has been named to the deans list at Bryan College, Dayton, Tenn., for the 2007 spring semester. To be eligible for the list, a student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Athens scholarships

These area students have received academic scholarships from Athens State University for the 2007-08 academic year.

Amie Estes, Savanna Leeth, both of Somerville; Dana Lynn Grimes, Samuel Charles Wallace, both of Trinity; James Jones of Falkville; Tracy King of Moulton; Tyler A. King of Hartselle; Christopher Wayne Pounder of Decatur.

ASMC graduates

These area students graduated from the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science.

Elena Nava of Decatur received a scholarship from The University of Alabama. She is the daughter of Susan Nava of Decatur. Roger Nichols III of Somerville received a scholarship to The University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is the son of Roger and Cheryl Nichols.

Cornerstone Elementary awards

These elementary students at Cornerstone Christian School were recognized at the schools awards day program.

Second grade: Conner McKinney, A-B honor roll; Daniel Phillips, A-B honor roll.

Third grade: Elizabeth Ann Bolding, A-B honor roll, Citizenship Certificate; April Fulkerson, A honor roll, Fruit of the Spirit Award, Scholarship Award (highest grade average), Citizenship Certificate; Jonathan Matthews, A-B honor roll, perfect attendance, Citizenship Certificate; Michael Pettit, A-B honor roll; Olivia Russell, A-B honor roll, Citizenship Certificate.
