Decatur youth lunch program begins Monday
21 sites offering free meals while school is out

Decaturís free summer lunch program begins Monday as part of the cityís annual effort to offer nutrition to youths when school is out.

All children 18 and younger are eligible, but the city distributes breakfasts and lunches mainly in target areas where youths already receive reduced or free school meals. Decatur Youth Services also arranged for meals to be delivered to two Lawrence County sites.

Last year the program fed about 1,345 children at 22 sites. Most of the meals end about two weeks before school begins to give the school system time to prepare for the school year.
