Accused drug dealer arrested after fleeing

After a two-year investigation by the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit, a man whom police accuse of selling drugs is in jail.

A news release said 40-year-old Michael DeWayne “Donut” Peterson of 1925 Old Moulton Road was arrested Saturday on charges of trafficking cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He is in Decatur City Jail on $3,500 bond.

The department’s Organized Crime Unit, Special Response Team and Anti Crime Unit executed three separate search warrants at the same time at 121, 161 and 171 Old Trinity Road, all associated with Peterson.

When officers entered 161 Old Trinity Road, Peterson fled out the back door. They caught him a short distance away. Investigators found 4 ounces of cocaine, drug sale paraphernalia and a .223 semi-automatic rifle.
