MOULTON — Investigators are accusing a Moulton man already in jail of allegedly stealing from the abandoned Wolf Springs Community Center.

A press release from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department said investigators charged Jason Simpson, 28, of 2350 Lawrence County 59 with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property.

Investigators say he wanted the copper from the electrical wiring.

The release said a representative of the center notified the department May 31 that most of the electrical wiring and an air conditioner were missing.

Investigators found similarities between this incident and other copper wire thefts that occurred earlier this year, so they focused their attention on individuals previously arrested on similar offenses.

An informant and other information led them to interview Simpson, in jail on similar thefts in Mount Hope and Hatton in March.

The release said the combination of information and the interview led investigators to charge Simpson in the case, which they believe occurred in February.

They also expect additional arrests.
