Athens State celebrates Flag Day

ATHENS — The U.S. Army garrison commander at Redstone Arsenal will be the guest speaker at Athens State University’s Flag Day ceremony Thursday.

The commander is Col. John A. Olshefski, a recipient of multiple awards, including the Bronze Star and Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Liberation Medal.

The Athens State Community Band and group Clear Title will provide music.

There will be a cookout as well.

The public is invited.

Festivities start at noon at the Sandridge Student Center ballroom.

Cramer rep to meet public in Athens

ATHENS — A caseworker for U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, will be in Athens on Tuesday.

The caseworker, Peggy Allen Towns, will meet with the public to provide help on federal government issues such as Social Security, Medicare and veterans affairs.

Towns will be at Limestone County Community Corrections in the Crutcher Shopping Center on South Jefferson Street from 1 to 4 p.m.
