Morgan delays hiring HR director

By Sheryl Marsh 340-2437

The Morgan County Commission delayed hiring a human resources director Tuesday because commissioners want to meet with the Decatur man whom a committee recommended.

During discussion about the issue during a work session Tuesday, District 4 Commissioner Stacy George told the commission what it should expect from the new director.

"I would like for this person to do things differently from the past," said George.

"I don't want him e-mailing his grandkids around or his family. This person is going to have to do things differently from Jack (Underwood). We don't want him coming to work two hours early and gabbing all over the courthouse with employees."

The commission fired Underwood in November after a television reporter exposed him and Chairman John Glasscock for having e-mails showing naked women on their computers.

The commission was poised to hire a new director Tuesday, but District 2 Commissioner Ken Livingston said he thought that all the commissioners should first talk with the top candidate.

A committee of elected officials, including Glasscock and one of his employees, interviewed six people and made a recommendation to the commission.

The commission plans to vote on hiring a director at its June 26 meeting.
