EMA offers training on basic emergencies

Morgan County residents can learn how to respond during an emergency or disaster.

The Volunteer Center of Morgan County and Morgan County Emergency Management Agency are sponsoring Community Emergency Response Training.

Training will be on Saturdays — July 14, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 — at the Morgan County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Citizens will learn to do the following:

  • Manage utilities and put out small fires.

  • Open airways, control bleeding and treat shock.

  • Provide basic medical aid.

  • Search for and rescue victims safely.

  • Organize to collect disaster intelligence and support first responders.

    Red Cross annual meeting is Friday

    The Morgan-Lawrence Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting Friday at noon at Central United Methodist Church, 616 Jackson St. S.E.

    The chapter will elect the board of directors and transact other necessary business.

    Alzheimer’s group to meet Tuesday

    The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Mental Health Association Office, 207 Commerce Circle S.W.

    Information from The University of Alabama at Birmingham concerning dementia education will be presented.
