Area volunteer could earn presidential award

HUNTSVILLE — An area volunteer may receive a service award during a visit to Huntsville by President Bush.

According to The Huntsville Times, the White House called the Volunteer Center of Madison County for nominations.

Bush reportedly will visit Huntsville sometime in August and wants to hand out a Presidential Greeter Service Award to an outstanding member of the community, the newspaper reported. Center director Sheila McFerran sent four nominations.

The White House was not available to say whether Bush plans to visit, and a spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, said that “we have heard about the potential visit by the president in Huntsville, but we aren’t sure that’s going to happen.”
