Hiding in plain sight
Location: 804 Fourth Ave. S.E.
Description: A caller complained that the property has a tag-along camper and a bus parked in the yard, two trailers parked on Fourth Street Southeast and another in the front yard. The caller also said junk was on the front porch and in the yard.
Property owner: According to Morgan County revenue commission records, Joe Spell owns the property. Calls to Spell were not returned.
Ordinance: It is against city code for a property owner, or those in charge of the property, to store or keep on the premises any inoperable vehicle, discarded household furnishings, scrap or junk, unless it is housed in an approved, enclosed, covered structure so as not to be viewable from any street, alley or other public right of way to prevent a health, safety or fire hazard.
Responsible officials: The home is in Councilman David Bolding's District 2. Bolding did not return a telephone call. David Lee of Community Development's code enforcement said the property has no active complaint, but the house received a notice in February for weeds, junk, scrap, car parts and an inoperable vehicle in the yard. Lee said the home was brought into compliance with city code in March.
