HARTSELLE — A man who was apparently lying in the street died after being hit by a vehicle, the coroner said.

Morgan County Coroner Russ Beard pronounced Charles Lee Burleson dead at the scene at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Burleson, 34, of 2402 11th St., Decatur, had been living between Hartselle and Decatur, the coroner said.

Beard said he sent Burleson's body to the state forensic laboratory in Huntsville for an autopsy.

Police Capt. Tom Sparks said Hartselle received a call at about 1:08 a.m. that a pedestrian had been hit in the 1200 block of South Sparkman Street.

Sparks said the man who died appeared to have been intoxicated. "The deceased was just lying in the traffic lane," he said.

Although the investigation is ongoing, Sparks said, he doesn't expect any charges to be filed.
