Woman robbed, struck behind store

Robbers beat and robbed a woman in the alley behind a Southwest convenience store, Decatur police said Monday.

Two black males approached a woman and her friend as they left Sara Mini Mart, 2108 Sandlin Road S.W., at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

The 20-year-old woman told police one of the men drew a handgun, struck her in the head twice, knocking her to the ground, and then took money from her pockets, said Sgt. Steve Campbell, a police spokesman.

One of the robbers was described as 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, wearing red shorts and a black T-shirt.

The second was described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 140 pounds, wearing black shorts and a white shirt tied around his face.

1 dies in Ardmore wreck; 3 injured

ARDMORE — A Pulaski man died Sunday in a wreck on Alabama 53 that also sent three others to the hospital.

The head-on collision that killed driver 18-year-old Barry Young III occurred at about 5:40 p.m., three miles south of Ardmore, according to state troopers.

The wreck injured his passenger, Crystal Young, 21, of Toney, and driver Deborah Willey, 39, and her son, Oliver Willey, 9, both of Dixon, Tenn.
