Foul play not ruled out in Montgomery minister's death

MONTGOMERY (AP) — Police have not totally ruled out foul play in the death of a Montgomery pastor found dead in his home, but continued to withhold details Tuesday.

A preliminary forensics report found that the Rev. Gary Aldridge, pastor of the Thorington Road Baptist Church, died from asphyxiation, but what might have caused the suffocation was not disclosed.

A police statement Monday said the death did not appear to be "as a result of random criminal activity."

That did not rule out foul play entirely, and police said the investigation would continue pending a final autopsy report.

A member of Aldridge's church found his body Sunday morning after the congregation became concerned because he didn't attend services.

Aldridge, 51, was senior pastor at the church.
