ATHENS — Three suspects are in jail after a Limestone County Sheriff’s deputy discovered they were in car stolen from Louisiana, during a traffic stop on Interstate 65.

Lt. Brad Curnutt of the sheriff’s department said Deputy Rick Oliver stopped the northbound Buick Park Avenue four-door because of an expired tag.

After a radio check, he discovered the vehicle had a switched tag and had been reported stolen from Caplan, La.

Oliver charged Donnie Everett Patterson, 35, of Florence, Brittani Nicole Roush, 18, of Henderson, W. Va., and Robert Lynn Smith, 31, of 2104 Lincoln Ave., Point Pleasant, W. Va., with first-degree receiving stolen property.

The three are in Limestone County Jail.

Each suspect has a $5,000 bond.

Curnutt said investigators are looking into a possible connection with a vehicle stolen from Muscle Shoals and abandoned in Louisiana.
