Lawrence County Coroner Micah Coffey said he has not received preliminary results of an autopsy on a body found Tuesday morning at the edge of a cotton field along Lawrence County 150, about a mile north of International Paper.
Coffey said Thursday he also sent DNA analysis to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an official identification of the body, believed to be Jimmie Keith Wilson Jr., 54, of Trinity.
The coroner said a driver license discovered on the body is that of Wilson. He also said prescription bottles found around the body were in Wilson's name.
He said another reason authorities suspect the body is that of Wilson is because the family filed a missing person's report June 21.
He estimates the body had been in the field about four days.
"We are still investigating to rule out foul play," Coffey said. "A cause of death will not be released until a coroner's inquest is completed and law enforcement agencies have completed their investigations."
Coffey said he doesn't expect to get preliminary reports on the autopsy until the end of next week.
Ronald Terrell, an employee of farmer James Blythe, said he was spraying the cotton field when he discovered the body about 8:30 a.m.
