Limestone man critical after gunshot

MOORESVILLE — A 19-year-old was in critical condition in Huntsville Hospital’s neurointensive care unit Friday after what Limestone County Sheriff’s Department investigators said they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot to the head Thursday night.

Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said Derek Shane Lackey was in intensive care after the 11:40 a.m. incident at a residence on Presnell Road near Mooresville.

McNatt said Lackey had been staying with friends at the residence for several months and showed the witness an unloaded handgun.

“Then the witness said he took a round, placed it in the gun, spun the chamber, put it up to his head and pulled the trigger, and the gun discharged,” McNatt said.
