Athens police seek traveling sex offender

ATHENS — Athens police are looking for a convicted sex offender who is living in hotels with a woman and her teenage son.

Capt. Marty Bruce said William Joseph Henderson, 37, who also goes by Willie Henderson, had been living at the Budget Inn in Athens from June 2-22.

Sex offenders are supposed to register a permanent address with authorities.

Bruce said Henderson fled before police could catch him at Budget Inn.

His conviction for carnal knowledge with a minor occurred in Louisiana, according to Brucen.

Lauderdale County authorities arrested him on violation of the Community Notification Act in February and transferred him to Louisiana.

He has been moving from hotel to hotel since his release in May, Bruce said.

Henderson is traveling with a woman and her 14-year-old son, Bruce said.

Anyone with information on Henderson's whereabouts can call police at 233-8700.
